Fergie has broken her silence on her National Anthem performance from the 2018 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night live in Los Angeles. The weird style performance quickly went viral after Fergie put her own unique spin on the traditional song.
Early this week Fergie released a statement to TMZ, saying, “I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
Fergie‘s performance caught some attention from stars and even had Mariah Carey giving Fergie some advice for how to deal with all the backlash.
It’s sort of hard to describe the performance in words, so if you haven’t watched it yet it’s probably worth getting caught up here:

Did #Fergie just try to Marilyn Monroe the Star Spangled Banner?

Fergie's national anthem finished 30 minutes ago and I still haven't recovered. A part of me will never be the same.
