Amal Alamuddin’s marriage to George Clooney not only cemented the top lawyer’s Hollywood status – but also her icon status in the fashion world.

And we have to say some of her looks over the months leading up to her big Venetian “I do” gave us a bit of deja vu – channeling the elegant style of another fashion force: the Duchess of Cambridge, nee Kate Middleton.

From the 36-year-old’s experimentation with colour to her penchant for brands like Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney, she and the duchess share an interest in fashion and a keen sense of how to wear it.

Kate, 32, first emerged as a bona fide sartorial muse in 2010, donning an ivory Reiss dress for an engagement photo shoot helmed by Mario Testino. The item quickly flew off the shelves, where the brand was hardly able to keep up with demand for the “Nanette” dress.

Following those early days, the mother of one has sported countless winning looks. She adores Alexander McQueen, having worn a design by the fashion house’s creative director, Sarah Burton, on her wedding day to Prince William.

That love continued after she recited her vows – on various tours in 2011 alone, Kate wore an Alexander McQueen sailor dress on a visit to Prince Edward Island; a purple gown to a BAFTA dinner; a red wool crepe frock to the River Pageant and a broderie anglaise suit in Singapore on a Diamond Jubilee tour stop.

Thanks to her rise as style force, she has assisted plenty of brands in gaining recognition, from Jenny Packham to Issa London to Emilia Wickstead and more.

Given what we’ve seen of Amal’s fashion sense to date, George’s love appears to be cut from a similar cloth to Kate. But Amal has proven time and again that she’s less cautious about taking a few fashionable risks, a philosophy that hasn’t failed her yet.

In one weekend, the newly minted style star wore two Oscar de la Renta wedding looks (exclusive photos of the wedding are in Hello!,on newsstands now!), and bespoke pieces by Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Giambattista Valli and Stella McCartney.

Take a look back at some of the parallels in Amal and Kate’s style, from knockout red-carpet moments to casual everyday fare, and see if you get the same feeling of deja vu!
