The Scene: This season’s show was held in Monaco in front of the Prince’s palace, which Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke noted will be the last time a fashion show will be held in the location. Names like Jennifer Connelly, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Zhang Ziyi and more were on hand for the once-(last?)in-a-lifetime moment.
The Inspiration: This season, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière looked to the 70s to inform this new crop of designs, with the intent to reposition old school motifs to appeal to a younger set.
The Look: Quite obviously 70s in most cases. There were clashing colors, mixed patterns, exploded florals bringing to mind trendy cushions or wallpaper from the decade. Also on tap? Plenty of pantsuits and separates, with flared hemlines and large, utilitarian pockets. Curling prints creeped up pieces like off-the-shoulder tops and breezy miniskirts, while well-placed lace accents and cut-outs added a dash of sex appeal.
