ANOTHER hit. It seems J.Crew can do no wrong. If the inspiration sounds a little complicated (Tom Mora, head of women’s design said he imagined a duality between the bold colours and Hawaiian florals of surfers on the Californian coast, set against European beach culture at the turn of the century, in particular, the Venetian coast, boardwalk promenades dressed in elegant eyelet whites and gondolier stripes), the clothes were anything but. This was a mash-up that worked.
Paint-splattered khaki jeans, sweet summer tops with signature jewel appliqué, tailored Bermudas and piped blazers, it was all as that grey T-shirt read: “Tres Bien”.
But the big news here was an on-the-money shoe collaboration with British design talent, Sophia Webster. Like many a great fashion alliance, it’s the upshot of a sartorial emergency; Jenna, caught short for heels in LA. “I had a party to go to and I literally didn’t have any shoes to wear and so I ran into Saks and randomly found a pair by Sophia Webster,” she begins. “I think it’s the first time I bought shoes from someone who I had never heard of, but I just loved them, and everyone complimented them that night.” Webster can be in no better hands: leave it to Jenna to set her star into ascent.
