At Milan Fashion Week, the beauty crowd had two reasons to rejoice after Gucci’s Spring ’15 show.
First, the runway look: a juxtaposition of radiant skin, gleaming eyes and soft touches of pink. Then there was the makeup itself, wrapped in chic black-and-gold packaging, debossed with the bold Guccissima pattern and capped off with those interlocking letters. There it was, our first official look at the 200-piece Gucci makeup line set to launch in October.
“For me, beauty and fashion are always connected,” says creative director Frida Giannini, “One doesn’t exist without the other. Eyes, skin, lips—they’re like accessories, all working together to create an unmistakable look.”
It’s no coincidence that much of the color palette evokes Gucci’s fabrics and leathers; Giannini studied the house’s archives and came up with the Iconic Six: gold, black, red, ottanio, bronze and copper. As she developed the line over four years, she added contemporary hues from the brand’s fabric boards. And to ensure that the products would be perfect, she worked closely with artistic director and legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath. The result: a line designed to move easily between a professional’s backstage kit and your everyday beauty bag.
While you might not be able to get your hands on the products until next month, the runway look is a promising sneak peek. McGrath created the flawless base using Lustrous Glow Foundation, Luminous Perfecting Concealer and Luxe Finishing Powder. Eyes were shaded in with the Magnetic Color Shadow Quad in Tuscan Storm, while the lower lashline received Gucci’s signature glamour thanks to the Color Shadow Mono in Iconic Gold. She finished the makeup with Opulent Volume Mascara in Cocoa on the lashes and Luxurious Moisture-Rich Lipstick in Nude Satin on the lips. Bold High-Gloss Lacquer in Wild Amarena coated models’ nails.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Casiraghi sat front row in an elegant red lip. After all, would any other shade do for the face of Gucci Cosmetics?
