There is a new breed of independent woman that have been shaped by all the other powerful women before her. The good news is there is no prototype – being a strong, independent woman is a state of mind, not a state of being. She simply looks and acts any way she wants.
When it comes to definition of the strong and independent woman of the 21st century the most accurate is: she knows what she wants! An independent woman listens to her intuition and has a deep understanding of her goals. She doesn’t let others sway her opinion or focus. A girl knows her limits but a wise girl knows she has none.
She is financially independent. She makes her own money and pays for her own things. She never has the expectation of being financially supported. If she’s in a relationship the focus is on mutual respect and loyalty. A man is not a financial plan. Period.
She doesn’t expect someone else to make her happy she can and does make herself happy by doing what she loves. Happiness is our choice and responsibility—it’s not someone else’s burden. If you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased, right!
She lives on her own, takes herself out to dinner or travels independently. Although she does a lot by herself it doesn’t mean she’s lonely.

When it comes to style she is one and only – she doesn’t follow trends, she simply makes them.
We all have periods of time when we just feel the need to refresh — our minds, our bodies and ourselves. And we all get into routines and before you know it, you’ve been wearing the same makeup, using the same handbag and wearing the same clothes — it just feels a little dull, boring or out-of-date. A makeover shakes everything up.
Wear properly fitted clothes that are tailored to your body. Too often, women (and men!) wear ill-fitting clothes doing them NO favors. Spend a bit more on fewer clothes that fit and flatter rather than a closet full of shapeless silhouettes. Trust me!
My job, as an Editor In-Chief, has taught me to multitask, which is consistent with my style, as it’s ever-changing and evolving! In full disclosure, my most comfortable look is that of a “sophisticated girl” — tailored blazer, pant and blouse. I’m ready for anything when this is my foundation. Then I add some sexy accents: uber-high stilettos, dangly earrings and a touch of animal print.
At the end of the day, ladies, we should all celebrate the successes of others and ourselves. Let’s build each other up, not break each other down. #GirlPower
