Known for drawing inspiration from far-flung locales, Matthew Williamson looked this season to Marrakech — and all the rich jewel tones and ornate embellishment associated with the city. His lineup was packed with prints, including a geometric floral that he said nodded to Morocco’s “graphic tiles,” worked in shades of deep blue or dusky pink on pieces such as a tailored, thigh-length coat. Another pattern in purples and blues recalled sunlight streaming through a colored lantern, and was used on a gathered and draped chiffon halter minidress.
Williamson’s signature embellishment was also a standout; one halter dress featured a graphic pattern of silver and pewter bugle beads with hip panels covered in tiny mirrors. Silhouettes were, as expected, feminine but this time with a Seventies feel to some looks, such as the rust-hued silk blouse with voluminous split sleeves, paired with a deep-blue chiffon maxi skirt.
