DO’S And DONT’S Of The Merlot Lipstick

1 of 6

The time has come for bold and bright to give way to the deep, dark lip colors of fall. Much like red lipstick, women often think they can’t wear a richly pigmented lip, but as long as you know what you’re doing dark lipstick can look remarkably chic. The far from color shy our makeup artist  is here with the guidance and inspiration you need to embrace the darker side of beauty. Without further ado, here are our do’s and don’ts of dark lipstick…

I recently rocked a bold vampy merlot colored lip and was kind of hesitant when I first put it on. You see, I thought I had my go to hot pink or at least red lip in my bag. I didn’t. The only random lipstick I had was for some reason this Dolce & Gabanna super dark wine colored lip.

This may be my new beauty obsession. The bold color is daring and sexy and also is a great transition from my usual (now) boring red. If you do choose to go bold and dark, be sure to make everything else very neutral. A neutral eye, maybe just some mascara, and don’t go too heavy on the liner either. You’ll be seeing a lot more of this color on the blog in the coming weeks as I transition my beauty routine for Fall.

DO prep your lips properly by exfoliating and moisturizing before application. This make the color go on smoother and last longer.

DON’T apply dark lipstick on dry, chapped lips. The color will crack and flake off–not a good look.
