The 20 best dresses in Golden Globe history By Aneliya Vasilieva
0Ruffles, layers of decadent fabrics and oh-so-many sequins… Let’s face it – we love nothing more than looking at the memorable, glamorous gowns sported by A-list beauties on the red carpet.
And few events offer the same standout frocks as the Golden Globes. Although some of the prestigious event’s past dresses don’t quite get our nod of approval, others top best-dressed charts and go down in fashion history for all the right reasons.
After careful deliberation – not to mention a few spats – Fashion Style Mag’s favourite fashion moment of the Golden Globes has to be from 1998, when a little known actress named Angelina Jolie made one of her first ever red carpet outings wearing a stunning silver, crystal-embellished gown that accentuated her model-like frame.
Since, we have seen hundreds of wonderful creations grace the red carpet. Latino beauty Salma Hayek stole the show in 2003 when she showed off her sensational curves in a figure-hugging, scarlet Narciso Rodriguez frock.
And Cameron Diaz was simply divine in a candy pink satin Chanel gown in 2009. That same year, Eva Mendes managed to share Cameron’s limelight in a white silk Dior taffeta bustier creation.
Another leading lady to shine in white is Sienna Miller, who wowed in a gorgeous ivory Marchesa gown as she glided down the red carpet in 2007. An unusual braid completed the Grecian goddess look.
But we can’t forget shimmer and sparkle – something Anne Hathaway provided us plenty of in 2011 with her antique rose-hued Armani Prive dress completed with thousands of glittering sequins.
Kate Winslet, meanwhile, gave us a more subdued – but equally stunning – look in 2009. The actress was the epitome of classic elegance in a black strapless Yves Saint Laurent number that she paired with Chopard diamonds.
Other top fashion moments to feature in our gallery include a pregnant Natalie Portman wearing a pretty pale pink Viktor and Rolf gown, Scarlett Johansson in stunning Elie Saab and Drew Barrymore in a show-stopping Atelier Versace nude gown. Click on the photo for the full Golden Globes gallery.
