The best beauty trends of 2012

What a beauty-full year it’s been! 2012 saw many of our most stylish stars setting brand new trends, from hot pink lips to the bold brow championed by our very own Duchess.

Long lashes, smoky eyes and lashings of red lippie also played their part with famous faces including Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart and Penelope Cruz helping establish some of the year’s top beauty crazes.

And we were even shown how to work the tricky ‘natural look’ courtesy of our red carpet favourites Blake Lively and Kate Winslet.

Red lips
Another timeless classic that remained a hot trend in 2012 was the red lip.

Bright and bold, it’s a go to for all A-list beauties. Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johannson were just two of Hollywood’s leading ladies working the look

The bold brow
This year we bid farewell to thin eyebrows and went bigger and bolder. Heading up this autumn trend was our very own Duchess of Cambridge, whose fuller brows got women everywhere reaching for their eyebrow pencils.

Bronzed beauty
A sun-kissed complexion is a beauty favourite. A sweep of bronzer helps warm up the skin and create a flawless canvas, a la Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez who championed this beauty basic this year

Long lashes
Long eyelashes will never go out of fashion. More and more of us opted for lash extensions this year, while lengthening, thickening mascara and fake lashes becoming a beauty basic. Innocent and seductive all at once, long lashes bring instant glamour to your look.

And no-one knows this better than British sensation Adele, who has championed beautiful eyes this year. Other fans of the long lashes include Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry

When it comes to glamorous evening looks, nothing turns heads quite like smoky eye makeup.

This sexy sophisticated style has proved particularly popular this year with famous fans including Zoe Saldana, Emma Stone and Kristen Stewart

Au natural
They say that less is more. And that was certainly true of one of 2012′s top makeup trends.

The natural look was a popular look on the red carpet this year championed by Blake Lively. Her effortless style inspired us all to ditch the heavy makeup and let our natural beauty shine through

Pink lips
This year women everywhere passed over their usual choice of lipstick and went for a hot pink.

And for anyone slightly intimidated by this girlie shade, there were plenty of stars showing us exactly how to work the look.
