Star-Tested Summer Beauty Tricks
0We got the inside scoop on Elizabeth Banks’s color-blocked smoky eye, Emmy Rossum’s all-natural skin softener and more celeb get-gorgeous secrets, straight from their hair and makeup pros!
USE BRONZER AS EYE SHADOW (REALLY!)
After prepping Paula Patton’s lids with primer, makeup artist Fiona Stiles applied CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer (in Light Bronze and Brown Bronze) from the lash line up to the brow “to add a little depth to the eye” for the Vanity Fair Oscars party.
GO DEEP
Celeb hairstylist Robert Vetica emphasized a deep side part to achieve the glamorous look Hilary Swank sported at the L.A. premiere of New Year’s Eve. A dramatic part is a quick and simple way to change up your style and try something high-impact. Vetica ensured that Hilary’s locks stayed smooth and frizz-free by using Moroccanoil Treatment while blow-drying.
FAKE IT
Get a faux glow like Kate Beckinsale’s by layering tinted moisturizer, bronzer and blush. It sounds like overload, but when properly blended, the result is surprisingly natural. For the Golden Globes, makeup artist Molly Stern prepped Kate’s skin with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand, added warmth with Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset, then dusted NARS Highlighting Blush in Miss Liberty on her cheekbones for a just-back-from-vacation finish.
DOUBLE-DOWN ON CORAL
To complement Katy Perry’s hair and the orangey-hued accents in her dress, makeup artist Jake Bailey opted for both coral lips and cheeks the night of the AMAs. “I swirled a tiny bit of coral shimmer blush [NARS in 'Orgasm'] on the apples of her cheeks,” says Bailey, who then gave Katy a bright coral-red pout with CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Flame.
YOU GLOW, GIRL
Highlighter is an often-overlooked – but totally key – component of a radiant makeup look. A swipe on the cheekbones is standard, but for a sexy allover gleam, makeup artist Beau Nelson brushed Dior Poudre Shimmer in Rose Diamond on Natalie Portman’s cheekbones, brow bones, bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow.
GO FOR THE COLD
To give Emma Stone’s hair extra bounce for the Kids’ Choice Awards, celeb hairstylist David Babaii washed it with IT&LY Pure Shampoo and Conditioner, then followed with a final cool-water rinse. The shot of cold H2O adds volume and seals the cuticle, guaranteeing shine.
GET TOUSLED
Fresh-out-of-curlers waves can look too polished and stiff. So for Jessica Biel’s Golden Globes do, celeb hairstylist Davy Newkirk used his fingers to comb through the actress’s just-curled ringlets, tousling the strands and applying Alterna Bamboo Style Moldable Texture Paste for a boho, beachy effect.
BE HANDS ON
Kate Hudson had a very handy hairstylist to thank for her beautiful, beachy look at the Vanity Fair fete. Celeb stylist David Babaii skipped the brush and instead used his hands while blow-drying Kate’s mane to enhance texture before curling sections and spritzing on IT&LY Purity Design Pure Definition Hairspray.
LET YOUR LIPS BE YOUR ACCESSORY
For the Kids’ Choice Awards orange carpet, Taylor Swift opted for a neutral dress and minimal accessories, so makeup artist Lorrie Turk added color and interest to the ensemble in the form of a coral pout. Using a lip brush, she applied CoverGirl Blast Flipstick Lipcolor in Cheeky.
