Dolce & Gabbana

Given the chance to fashion a makeup line, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana crafted their signature Mediterranean-vixen aesthetic into a luxe collection of shadows, lipsticks, bronzers, and nail lacquers, housed in sleek gold compacts. Will either the gold-flecked black Stromboli polish or the siren-red Iconic lipstick become the beauty version of the brand’s leopard print?

The NARS 413 BLKR Duo Eyeshadow pairs two gorgeous colors that are great for Fall. On the left we have a soft mauve with low shimmer. It is a tad darker and more purple than NARS Lhasa. On the right is a black with red pearl. It is similar to MAC Beauty Marked and is a less intense version of NARS Night Fever. Both colors applied smoothly with decent pigmentation and blended easily. I also loved the versatility of this duo. The lighter shade is great for day but you can easily smoke it up for night by adding the color on the right.

NARS 413 BLKR Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, on the other hand, is a matte jumbo crayon lipstick in a beautiful blue-based fuchsia that will look great on any skin tone. It glided on easily with great color payoff and lasted about an hour or two. However, I have always found the Velvet Matte formula drying and this is no different. Make sure you exfoliate and moisturize in advance if you have dry lips or it will adhere to fine lines and flakes.

MAC Powder Blush in Passionately Tempted set the stage for a dark late-night show. Eye Shadow Quad blends dramatic shades for a smoky gaze intensified by Fluidline and False Lashes Extreme Black. Apply Blush with 129 Powder/Blush Brush and add Liner with 211 Pointed Liner Brush for maximum impact. Mattene Lipstick in Nocturnal Instincts layered with Lipglass in Revenge is Sweet and, as a final touch, nails go nocturnal with Blue Gaze Nail Lacquer.

Dior‘s Grand Bal Holiday 2012 Collection is slowly trickling into stores this month. Similar to previous holiday offerings, Grand Bal’s color theme focuses primarily on reds and golds. However, both the lipstick and nail polish packagings are a nod to old time glamour.
There are two lipglosses in Ceremony Red and Lame Gold. Ceremony Red is a medium red with subtle shimmers. Lame Gold is a very light gold with larger gold glitter, which makes it look somewhat gritty. Fairy Golds Eyeshadow Quint is a nice neutral palette. There is a chocolate brown, light peach, glittery gold, white, and light taupe. I love the brown and taupe shades but am not a fan of the glittery gold. The swatch below is done wet so the gold isn’t as gritty or chunky. When swatch dry, the gold shade separates even in the tester itself.
