Summer Hair How-To: Beachy Waves
0To capture that easy, relaxed look of beachy hair, one doesn’t need the actual beach at their fingertips. Instead, hairstylist Tommy Buckett breaks down the style in four steps that can be achieved without knots of wind or salty waters.
The Look
Get the classic beachy waves look, born by the sea and bound to make you sexy this summer.
Get Wet
“Start with damp hair and mist on a beach spray. It’s important to work with a quality product to create the right texture. Sachajuan Ocean Mist is amazing and one of my favorites. Spray it at the roots and midway down strands, then work it through with your fingers to the ends. Don’t be afraid to apply it liberally.”

Minimize Frizz
“If your hair is dry or coarse at the tips, rub on a dime-size amount of curl cream to moisturize and control any fly-aways. This is also the secret to getting that piece-y, breeze-y effect.”
Kérastase Crème Oléo-Curl, $39
Enhance Your Texture
“Next, scrunch up the ends to encourage a curl and blow-dry with a diffuser or let your hair air-dry.”

Bring On the Beach Waves
“Create waves by wrapping random strands around the barrel of a clip-less curling iron, focusing on the area from the root to the mid-shaft. Leave your ends free—this will give you that natural, windswept kind of look you’re after—and you’re done.”
