Put the finishing touch to your look for next season, with our jewelry trend edit from Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Week, packed with pieces that you will be dying to get your hands on before they’ve even hit the shops.
Oversized fantasy earrings at Dolce & Gabbana
With farfale pasta shapes, gold medallion-embellished vegetables and baroque pendants in recent seasons, Dolce & Gabbana earrings are rarely overlooked on the runway. The design duo keeps them colorful and fun, and makes sure they match the collection, and Spring/Summer 2013 was no exception with long multicolored pieces mixing raffia, gold coins, beads and resin from the Italian label, to dress features left bare by hair pulled back with a scarf.
Bumble bee choker at Alexander McQueen
After sending naiads in anemone dresses and futuristic visors down the runway for Fall/Winter 2012-2013, Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton was carried away on a honeycomb dream by the buzzing of busy bees for Spring/Summer 2013. Brimmed beekeeper-style hats drew on a hexagonal beehive motif as golden bees were found nestled in the folds of dresses and adorning accessories, including this elegant honey-colored choker.
1980s hoops at Balmain
It was just a year ago that Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing unveiled his first jewelry collection for Spring/Summer 2012, featuring a host of graphic gold cuffs. This season, girls’ wrists were left bare and hair was pulled back into a high plaited ponytail, revealing enormous gold hoops with a very 1980s look.
1970s sautoirs at Saint Laurent
It was one of the most highly anticipated shows of Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Week, and for his first show at the helm of Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane created dandy silhouettes with a certain 1970s charm, complete with floppy black felt hats. Sheer fabrics and pussy-bow blouses were set off with tassled metal pendants.
Oversized pearls at Chanel
Last year they were pinned into up-dos and applied directly to the girls’ skin, but for Spring/Summer 2013, Karl Lagerfeld put pearls in the spotlight on the runway once again, using them to embellish a black tweed dress in a polka dot design, or on accessories for the collection, including a choker and oversized pearl cuffs.
Rosaries revisited at Jean Paul Gaultier
Dreamaker Jean Paul Gaultier brought the soundtrack to the 1980s back to life on his runway, in an electric show that saw Grace Jones, Michael Jackson, Boy George, David Bowie and Madonna take to the catwalk in fashion form. The designer took the contemporary updates to retro looks right down to the tiniest detail, with this Like A Virgin-era Madonna-style outfit that featured a scarf holding back scrunch-dried hair and layered rosaries and crucifixes on a cone-top dress.
Oversized hoops at Diane von Furstenberg
At Diane von Furstenberg, it wasn’t just the models’ Google camera glasses that caught our eye, but also their super-sized creoles. Gold and silver-plated metal earrings harked back to 1960s model Veruschka in the work of Rubartelli.
Bold bib necklaces at Lanvin
Wave goodbye to the Yeux d’Elsa eye brooches and the baroque jewels inspired by Barbara Hutton that featured in Alber Elbaz’s Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection. This season Lanvin’s creative director is accessorizing his irresistible little black dresses with minimalist gold bib necklaces, bringing an Amazonian touch to his mesmerizing muses.
Panther cuff at Roberto Cavalli
After his Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection of shimmering scarab brooches and colored crocodile skins, Roberto Cavalli has returned to the lion’s den, revisiting his favorite feline friends for Spring/Summer 2013 with a selection of roaring panther bracelets and ear cuffs.
Gold cuffs at Hermès
The leather experts Hermès have created graphic gold cuffs for Spring/Summer 2013, styling them over leather gloves for a luxe look.
Rainbow beads at Ralph Lauren
In a departure from the timeless elegance of the 1920s which inspired his current collection, Ralph Lauren has taken a trip to Argentina for Spring/Summer 2013. His Latin ladies, bedecked in black berets, stormed the runway sporting beaded necklaces and bracelets in a myriad of colors which perfectly complimented the collection’s floral print dresses.
Berry bracelets at Chloé
For her third ready-to-wear collection for the French fashion house, Claire Waight Keller has given the label’s sought-after cuff a spring makeover, incorporating bold, berry-like jewels.
Fringed earrings at Versace
At Versace it’s all in the details. Lingerie peeps through under eveningwear, lace paneling covers the length of a black evening dress and fringing gives necklaces and hoop earrings an edge.
Leather cuffs at Céline
For Spring/Summer 2013, Phoebe Philo, creative director of the French fashion house, continues to employ minimalist accessories to add a subtle touch of fantasy to her impeccably cut dresses. Last season’s gold cuffs have been replaced by artfully knotted black leather counterparts, to be worn by themselves, or with one on each arm.
Chain links at Nina Ricci
After designing highly refined lace and couture-knot pieces for the Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection, creative director for Nina Ricci Peter Copping showed long, entangled chain link golden necklaces for a rock’n'roll touch.
Crystal cuffs at Missoni
Celebrated for their highly graphic woven materials, Angela Missoni opened the Spring/Summer 2013 show with an unexpected blast of pristine white. The collection was splashed with a palette of pastel colors as the looks unrolled, from light red to mint-green, especially noted in the collection’s accessories. Chokers and cuffs boasted white crystals on a colorful backdrop, which, in the end, took center stage as the collections stand-out colors.
Tiger print at Kenzo
Last season, the new artistic duo behind Kenzo, Humberto Leon and Carol Kim, went wild for their Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection with an embroidered tiger sweatshirt that turned into the collection’s most popular piece. For the Spring/Summer 2013 show, the tiger kept its place in the sun, but this time through a line of jewelry, like with this tiger claw pendant on a golden chain.
Chrome bangles at Givenchy
Last March, Givenchy artistic director Riccardo Tisci sent his girls down the runway in structured, space-age looks for the Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection, accessorized with oversized golden saucer-shaped earrings and star brooches. For the Spring/Summer 2013 line, the designer leaned towards a graphic yet minimalist silhouette, accentuated by thin chrome bangles worn delicately on the wrist.
Baroque bib necklaces at Dior
In his highly anticipated first collection as artistic director of Christian Dior, Raf Simons presented his debut ready-to-wear collection for the brand earlier this month. The designer’s dresses and impeccably cut tuxedo jackets were accented with knotted silk scarves and baroque-styled bib necklaces, stitched with colorful crystal flowers.
Bangles at Fendi
On Fendi’s Spring/Summer 2013 runway, jewelry kept its hands to itself, worn only on the wrists. With alternating stacked bangles, moving between minimalist design and colors to printed graphics and back again, the cumulative affect echoed the collection’s pallette and patchwork, with a range of camel, beige, cream and cappuccino.
